About the City

Exmouth known as the "English Riviera", is
located in the middle of Devonīs wonderful landscape.

Palm and lemon trees in 'olde worlde' England? Believe it or not, there are resort towns on England's southern coast, Exmouth included, which can boast sumptuous sub-tropical vegetation and average summer temperatures of around 25°.
Arguably one of the most typically English regions, the Southwest has provided the source of many of the countryīs Arthurian legends and a fair share of its finest literature.
With its wonderfully mild climate and Mediterranean-style architecture, it is hardly surprising that Exmouth is regarded by the English as part of their very own "Riviera"!
There are so many attractions.
For example Sports: sailing, riding, golf, polo and cricket. Long walks on scenic cliffs, weeping willows by rivers, and the unique and mysterious gloomy moors.
And for anyone who is interested in the history of the island, all around Exmouth there are relics of the mythical past.
Not only has Avalon its origins here but it was also home to William the Conqueror and Richard the Lionheart.
Devon has been an inspiration for many writers - Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Thomas Hardy and many others were inspired by the beautiful scenery.
One of Sherlock Holmes most famous mysteries was set here indeed if you take a trip out to Dartmoor you cannot fail to be impressed by the alluring atmosphere and stunning scenery.
Who knows, maybe you will be inspired to write a story - in English!
Our instructors will be delighted to arrange all trips and excursions exclusively for you. We also recommend a visit to Exeter and Plymouth, which are attractive seaside cities. Plymouth is very well known as the place where the Pilgrim Fathers set out for "The New World".

Sights:
The Manor Gardens as well as Woodbury castle, an old fortress.
Exeter: the capital of Devon is rich in tourist attractions especially the Norman Cathedral.
The popular Molīs coffee house visited by the famous sea voyagers Francis Drake and Walter Raleigh.

Shopping:
Axminster carpets, lace and embroidery from Honiton as well as wool from Wellington.

Culinary delights:
Lamb, beef and fish are all true delicacies here. Add to this porter or stout beer or try the local cider.

Excursions:
The Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks are well worth visiting for long walks through the moor landscapes as well as Okehampton camp with its Iron Age hill fortress. Mooreton Hampstead and Buckfastleigh are scattered with thatched cottages. Granbrook Castle and Grimspound, a settlement from the Bronze Age, should not be missed. Worth visiting is Torbay the "Queen of the sea resorts" with many opportunities for entertainment and activities such as concerts, the yacht harbour, local gardens and parks and much more.
